Prof. (Dr.) Madhu Veeraraghavan serves as the Pro Vice Chancellor (Management, Law, Humanities and Social Sciences) at the Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), Bengaluru. He also holds the distinguished positions of T. A. Pai Chair Professor of Finance and Dr. TMA Pai Endowment Chair in Management Research at the T. A. Pai Management Institute (TAPMI), Manipal. In these roles, he plays a pivotal part in shaping academic strategy, advancing research excellence, and driving institutional growth.
With a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, an MBA in Finance and Investments, and a PhD in Finance, Prof. Veeraraghavan brings over two decades of rich international academic experience. He has taught and held leadership roles at globally reputed institutions, including Griffith Business School, Queensland University of Technology, the University of Auckland, and Monash University, Melbourne. This extensive global exposure informs both his research perspective and academic leadership.
Since joining TAPMI in 2013, he has been instrumental in strengthening the institute’s academic rigor and research output. As Director from 2017 to 2023, he ably led the institution
through a phase of enhanced reputation and global engagement, and continues to also contribute at a broader level through his leadership at MAHE.
Ranked No. 1 in India in the 2025 Accounting Research Rankings released by Brigham Young University (BYU), Prof. Veeraraghavan’s work represents one of the highest distinctions in global accounting academia. He is also a recipient of the AICTE–Dr. Pritam Singh Best Teacher Award (2021) and is recognized among the top 10% of authors worldwide by SSRN, underscoring his sustained research impact and academic excellence.
His research spans Corporate Finance, Behavioural Finance, Corporate Governance, particularly in emerging markets, and the interface between Auditing and Finance. He has authored over 50 research papers in leading international journals such as Management Science, The Accounting Review, Journal of Financial Economics, Contemporary Accounting Research, Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, Journal of Corporate Finance, Journal of Banking and Finance, and Journal of Business Ethics. His work is widely cited and has significantly advanced scholarship in finance and accounting.
Beyond his research, Prof. Veeraraghavan actively contributes to the academic community through editorial and advisory roles. He serves on the Editorial Boards of the Journal of Contemporary Accounting and Economics and Accounting Theory and Practice, and is a founding member of the Editorial Advisory Board of the Indian Journal of Accounting Research (IJAR).
Over the years, he has received numerous accolades, including global research rankings, best paper awards at international conferences, and competitive international research grants, further reflecting the relevance and impact of his work.
